The Awkward Age was singer Allison Schwarz and guitarist Steve Coghill’s second attempt to form a band. The first time was a flop after failing to find a drummer. This time around they began by recruiting guitarist Bryan Yoshida (Tigerella, Avoidance Theory, Hrududu Factory) to smack out the beats. Rounding out the lineup and sealing the deal was a man with a Mac, samples and midi smarts, keyboard player Brad Lindenberg.

For the past couple years Allison and Steve had been playing supporting roles in their respective bands; Allison, playing cello in the avant-rock band WACO and Steve, playing bass with indie-popsters Tigerella. The Awkward Age brought them both somewhat reluctantly out of the shadows.

The Awkward Age’s music was a folky mix of delicate vocals, simple acoustic guitar strumming, ethereal organ, and straightforward drumming. They never got a chance to release a CD before disbanding, but contributed 2 tracks to the first Shmat Compilation in 2004.
