Light Cat Toy

You may have to play in the dark to implement this cat toy. As stated before, cats sense movement over shapes and that said movement doesn't necessarily have to be something physical! A small pen light shining around the walls of a darkened room will get your cat's attention in a hurry. Try moving the light pen quickly everytime the cat pounces on the supposed "light bug" on the wall. Using penlights as a cat toy has the added advantage that there is no danger of accidentally hitting the cat on the head when you move the penlight beam quickly.

For double cat toy fun, try using a pair of penlights. The cat will go nuts trying to catch both of the beams. They also seem to enjoy scrambling to get at a light spot shining halfway up a doorway. One thing to note with this type of cat toy is that the cat will certainly get angry if there is never anything physical for him to catch. As such, it's best to either combine the Light Cat Toy with things like the Paper Ball Cat Toy or simply give him some sort of cat treat afterwards so the cat feels like he's accomplished something!

Warning: never ever shine a penlight directly into the cats eyes since their eyes are much more sensitive than ours. It's also probably not a good idea to use a laser pointer as a cat toy even though the cats like the concentrated beam of light because it looks like an unobtainable bug cat toy to them! The light could easily be accidentally reflected into the cat's eyes even if you don't intentionally shine it into their eyes.
