The best cat toys are often very cheap or free ...

Monitor as Cat Toy

You may have mixed results with this cat toy. Using a screen or monitor as a cat toy can be a wild success for some cats but completely fail for others. But if you are reading this you most definitely are able to try it. This cat toy method also requires caution. Have the cat sit in your lap or near your terminal and try and attract his attention to the screen. Then move your mouse pointer back and forth across the screen. If you are lucky (and the cat doesn't just concentrate on your actual mouse) then he may actually track the pointer on the screen, thinking it's a new type of bug cat toy!

It's a pretty well known fact that some cats are able to track things on tv or on a monitor screen. There are even cat videos for this. But using the screen as a cat toy doesn't pay off for all cats, so if you're having no luck, move on quickly to physical cat toys like the Paper Ball Cat Toy or Sock Cat Toy methods

Warning: the cat will probably try to get at the screen so it helps to have a non-scratchable shield over it. Never use a lap top for this cat toy... the cat can easily scratch the screen!
