5.8.08 : Possible “Featured Listings”

While I’ve got a few minutes and it’s fresh in my mind, I wanted to go ahead and introduce an idea I had. For over a year, I’ve been thinking of introducing “Featured Listings” for the Piano Resource Directory. The main reason is because in the past I’ve been asked about this by several piano businesses. I resisted it at first, because this was a free directory and because I didn’t know if it was technically possible.

I know what you’re thinking - well, there go the free piano listings! Actually, if my plan works out, that part won’t change. The featured listings will be sort of like the Yellow Pages advertising where businesses can pay for a better placement and other services within their category (i.e. Illinois Piano Tuners, etc..)

I know that times are tough for everyone - heck, they are for me. I think this is one reason why this site has been popular recently. It’s a free, hand-edited place to list your business online. But I know there are others who still want a better placement for their piano business on the site. I also know there are larger or nationwide piano stores and chains (many have written in) who would like to get some sort of placement here. I’m going to try and figure out the best way to accomplish all of that along with a price structure in the next couple months, when I have time.

As I’ve said before, this piano directory was built originally on a lark - to teach myself about databases. If I’d known back then how popular it would be, I’d have built in all sorts of infrastructure and done things much differently. I think it is still is possible to build out the functionality, but I just have to see if it is feasible since this is just me doing the updating and keeping track of stuff.

P.S. Several people have written in asking if I need any data entry for hire done. I’m sorry, but this piano site is just me sitting in front of my PC - so I can’t really afford to do that right now. But thanks for asking.
