Improvements to the Site

Hello there. Well, I’ve been attempting to improve the Piano Resource Directory a bit this year. Besides making some changes to the layout and graphics, one of the things I decided to do is to introduce a more personal aspect in the form of news and announcements about what’s going on with the directory.

Since the directory is semi-built upon a blog template anyhow, this makes perfect sense and in the last week I’ve figured out how to have categories perform as BOTH state and city divisons as well as “blog”-like posts.

Over the next few months, I hope to implement a number of other changes. Because entering piano resources by hand takes a surprising amount of time (don’t ask, hand-editing is painful right now), the site news will hopefully keep people abreast of progress as well as assuring them that I haven’t fallen off the face of the earth. =) Before, people had no idea if I was getting their submissions or not because the site was designed as a pure directory.

One of the other things I’m considering is “featured listings”. I’ll write more on this later - but just to let people know that I HAVE received quite a few queries about paid listings. I resisted this for a long time - the directory was intended to be free from the start. But I realize the amount of work I do on the site could be increased if a few premium listings helped justify the free listings. I’m going to have to think about how this could be acomplished, though. Remember, it’s just me updating the listings!
