Pond Rock
Untitled (CD-R Demo)

Last season's Western Conference Champions, The Anaheim's Mighty Ducks, play their home hockey down at a place called The Arrowhead Pond, or just "The Pond" for short. It's a big enough place to host a Billy Joel or REM concert (I've seen both there, don't laugh). But I don't think these guys will be headlining there anytime soon. How's that for a sloppy transition. So anyway this band whose CDR found their way to me is called Pond Rock. Standard guitar based rock fusion. Sort of Chili Peppers, Black Crowes, that lot. I didn't like it too much. I always say that though. Sue me, jack. You know me. They're from Santa Cruz, Cali. Competently played 3 songs, entitled "For It", "359", "Purgatory". Terrible Van Halenitis song titling notwithstanding, I could sort of stand the 2nd slower song. But a little too much reggae feel and a weird time change in the middle of the song. Did I mention that a lot of peeps at Shmat don't like guitar solos. And jamming? Um. Interesting that the nine and a half minute long 3rd song also contains a weird time change. Right about the same time as the previous song. It gets all funky and stuff. Ahhhhh... I don't know what I'm talking about and can't write intelligently any more. At its best that 3rd song's ending is sort of like watery Built to Spill but not as prog. Or maybe U2. Ok, I'll spare you; I'm out of here.
