Sal Nastasi Untitled (CD)
Ok, so I know I'm the reviewer everyone loves to hate. Or hates to love, because the brutal truth pours out of me. But I think you'll mostly agree with me on this one, ughhhh. Geez, one of the buggiest things for me is the insistence on the little logo of a musical note with a halo over it. That basically made me almost toss it w/out listening to the disc. There's maybe a billion other logos that could have been used instead to more subtly signal your religous preferences. Well, one thing going for Mr. Nastasi is that there are but 4 songs on this demo. He's got that part right at least. Keep it short. Thankfully. Oh, it's competent alrighty. He has pipes and can sing. He can play acoustic guitar. If he was a contestant on American Idol or something, he'd probably make it past the first couple rounds at least. These are pretty standard pop tunes. Of the four track on the album, the most musically interesting to me was the last song "Real". It's more folky and more focused on the acoustic guitar. It does kind of remind me of James Taylor as his letter suggests. It sounds pretty honest and more lo-key. More like this and less like the cheeseball earlier tracks would be good.
